The pitching staff and reserves for the American League All-Star team were just announced, and the A.L. players voted three more members of the Red Sox -- closer Jonathan Papelbon, outfielder J.D. Drew and catcher Jason Varitek -- to the team. The Sox had four starters -- first baseman Kevin Youkilis, second baseman Dustin Pedroia, outfielder Manny Ramirez and designated hitter David Ortiz -- voted in by the fans, giving them 7 of the 32 positions on the A.L. All-Star team . . . the most representation of any American League team. Ortiz, of course, will not be able to play because of his injured wrist. There is no immediate word as to who will replace him. The team with the second-most number of A.L. All-Stars is Texas, with four (starting outfielder Josh Hamilton and reserves Milton Bradley, Ian Kinsler and Michael Young). The Twins, Yankees and Angels each have three, the Rays, Indians and White Sox have two each, and the Mariners, Orioles, Blue Jays, A's, Royals and Tigers have one each. |
