BOSTON -- Bartolo Colon, on the disabled list because of a strained oblique muscle, has been told to back off his throwing.
Manager Terry Francona said Colon has been experiencing discomfort in his throwing session on flat ground from 120-130 feet. So the plan is for Colon to take Wednesday and Thursday off and then play catch on Friday, though not from as far as 120 feet.
Francona said Colon also would play catch on Saturday and then he would be reevaluated when the team gets back together next Thursday in Anaheim after the All-Star break.
