Ortiz in the sixth inning

Ortiz said this afternoon that he would swing for the fences, and he didn't lie.

Every time up so far tonight he has taken a big swing. He homered during his second at-bat in the fourth inning -- a solo shot to right field -- and in the sixth he walked.

Sandy Madera came in as a pinch-runner and Ortiz waved to the fans, who gave him a standing ovation, as he left the field.

Overall he went 1-for-3 with a walk. He was taken out of the game because he was scheduled for only four at-bats.
