PAWTUCKET _ Big Papi didn't disappoint.
Red Sox slugger David Ortiz went 1-for-3, including a home run and walk as the PawSox pounded the Mud Hens Thursday night at McCoy Stadium, 15-6.
Ortiz claimed after his four at-bats that he didn't feel any discomfort. He sure looked comfortable at the plate and took some major-league hacks in all four plate appearances.
"It was good to see him swing with such authority and not have to worry about [his wrist]," said Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson.
"I tried to swing the way I normally do - the hardest I can," Ortiz
said.
"That's my game," he said afterwards to a throng of media gathered
outside the door to the PawSox's clubhouse. "After the way I was
hurting, it was a good feeling to be able to swing like that."
"I chased a few high fast balls," he said, "but, other than that, I
was taking the 'bad' pitches."
It was a good night for the Big Guy.
"The fans were unbelievable," he said. "They made me feel like I'm
family."
The 11,460 in attendance -- the fifth largest in team history -- gave him a standing ovation from the start.
