Down on the farm, the Red Sox released infielder Chad Spann this afternoon. He was hitting .185 in 56 games for the PawSox.

Pawtucket also activated infielder Jeff Natale from the disabled list. He has been on the DL since April 21 after he fractured his forearm when he was hit by a pitch. He has been rehabbing in Lowell for the last two weeks and posted a .333 average in 11 games with one homer and six RBI.
