Click the play button below to hear Sean's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: the Red Sox' sudden surge back to first place, Daisuke Matsuzaka's inexplicable success, and Jed Lowrie's big chance.
Here are some excerpts from Sean's comments:
On the Rays' seven-game losing streak: "Because the Rays are young and probably doubting themselves a little bit, it will be interesting to see if this has any hangover effect when the second half resumes."
On Matsuzaka: "Let's face it, on most starts you can't expect him to go much beyond six innings, because he is so inefficient with his pitches. ... When you're asking the bullpen to get 12 outs on their own every five days, that's asking for trouble."
On Lowrie: "This next four- to six-week period, however long Lugo is out ... will be an opportunity for them to evaluate what Lowrie can do at that position. ... It will probably go a long way toward determining what the Red Sox will do in the offseason. I think it's obvious that they don't want to come back next year with Lugo as their starting shortstop."
