BY STEVEN KRASNER BOSTON -- Manny Ramirez' tight right hamstring apparently is well enough to permit him to start Wednesday's game in left field instead of serving as the Sox' designated hitter for the game against the Twins. J.D. Drew's sore back, though, played a role in Ramirez playing in the field for the furst time since the final game in Houston, on June 29. He has been the DH since. By having Ramirez play left, manager Terry Francona is able to give some at-bats to Sean Casey whose importance to the team has been limited to pinch-hitting opportunities with Ramirez only able to DH. Casey is batting .360, but has started only one game since June 18. Casey, a first baseman by trade, will be the DH. Another reason for making sure Casey is in Wednesday's lineup? He's a career .500 hitter (14 for 28) with one homer and nine RBI against Minnesota starter Livan Hernandez. |
