Charles T. (Ted) Schmidt, Jr., a resident of Saunderstown, has been named Governor of Red Sox Nation for the state of Rhode Island.
More than 800 fans submitted an application for a New England gubernatorial position. Each applicant responded to two short-answer essay questions and had the opportunity to solicit support from his or her friends. These endorsements served as a key component in the selection process.
A retired professor/Labor Arbitrator & Mediator, Schmidt holds degrees at UMass Amherst, Northeastern University (MBA), Cornell's Industrial Relations School (Master's Degree), and Michigan State University (Ph.D.). He is the founding Director of the Schmidt Labor Research Center, which was named in his honor upon retirement from URI in 1999, where he worked for 31 years.
