The rumor mill churns, and now Ken Rosenthal reports that "unless a miracle happens," the Tampa Bay Rays actually failed in their attempts to land Jason Bay. Separately, a Tampa official denied recent MLB.com reports that a deal had been done. (Tampa Tribune) Rosenthal says the Manny-to-the-Marlins deal remains dead. CommentsLeave a comment |

This is not Theo's year. If the trade doesn't go through what will happen with Manny?
Play the rest of the year?
New contract?
Release?
What do you think

They will put him on waivers, if he clears and no one claims him, the Red Sox will then have to Aug 15 or 31 (I can't remember offhand) to then try and work a deal out with another team. If Manny is claimed off waivers than the Red Sox would receive compensatory draft picks for Manny. It is not likely he would be claimed off waivers though. The claiming team would then have to pay the remainder of his $7 million contract this year. The only real reason that Florida, Philly and LA even showed a little interest was because of Boston's willingness to pay that money for the trading partner. That will only happen via a trade. So in review, he will either be traded in the next 61 minutes, next month or released at year end.
That's my 2cp.
