TORONTO _ Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett played catch Friday afternoon with pitching coach John Farrell for about 10 minutes. Trainer Mike Reinold watched.
"He had no complaints," admitted manager Terry Francona. "He threw the ball pretty well. We just want to make sure we do the right thing."
The right-hander has been feeling numbness and tingling in his fingers on his throwing hand of late. As a result his start was pushed back three days and he's scheduled to pitch on Tuesday in New York.
After playing catch, Beckett had treatment and said nothing is different. He will throw a side session here at the Rogers Centre on Saturday.
Tim Wakefield (shoulder stiffness) will also throw a side session here on Saturday. He said he's painfree and could pitch the next series in New York if needed. Francona said Friday afternoon he won't name his Wednesday's starter until both Beckett and Wakefield throw their side sessions.
