Two injury developments from the clubhouse today:
* Tim Wakefield has been scratched from his next start on Tuesday because of shoulder stiffness. He will be placed on the DL and miss at least his next two outings.
``We're trying not to have this thing get to the part where it did (last year),'' said manager Terry Francona. ``Missing two starts is not what we're shooting for. But pitching at half-speed for the next 10 is not what we're looking for, either.''
Wakefield felt some tightness develop in his shoulder during his last start, Wednesday in Kansas City, when he went eight innings in the Sox' 8-2 win over the Royals.
When he went to thirow a side session Saturday afternoon, the tightness was again evident.
``If we act now,'' said Francona, ``this will be (just a little while).''
Candidates to start in his place would include Devern Hansack or Charlie Zink.
Wakefield returned to Boston earlier this morning, where he will be examined by Dr. Thomas Gill and likely be given a cortisone shot.

Kevin Youkilis was originally in the startiing lineup, but was later scratched because of soreness in his left shoulder.
He's been replaced at first by Sean Casey. In addition, the re-arranged batting order now features Jacoby Elssbury back at the top of the lineup and J.D. Drew, who had been in the leadoff spot the last five games. in the cleanup spot.
