Click the play button below to hear Sean McAdam's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: Yesterday's gritty win in Toronto, a very poor week for Boston starting pitchers, injuries hurting the depth of the starting lineup, and the implications of the three games to come in New York.
Here's some of what Sean said about the Red Sox' stating rotation:
"They are getting Wakefield back, and the hope is, perhaps Beckett can pitch later when they get back for the homestand that begins with the White Sox. I don't know that there are long-term concerns about Lester and Matsuzaka, they just seemed to have poor starts after a stretch of pretty effective pitching. So, I think Wakefield coming back gives them a little stability, and as I said, I would expect at least some of those guys who had tough turns [last week] to return to form the next time out."
And on the Yankee series:
"If they could win that series -- that is, take two of the next three from the Yankees -- not only would that give them three series wins on this three-city trip, and a 6-3 trip coming hope, but two out of three wins against the Yankees would knock them at the very least six back of the wild card, six back of the Red Sox, and as we get into Labor Day weekend and only three head-to-head meetings left with the Red Sox -- the final three games of the season -- that would leave the Yankees with very little margin for error."
