Click the play button below to hear Sean McAdam's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: Why the Yankees need to win this series, what has made the Red Sox better than the Yankees to this point in the season, Tim Wakefield trying to break his personal losing streak against New York, and Sean's most memorable moments at Yankee Stadium.
Here's some of what Sean said about the importance of this series to the Yankees:
"[The Yankees] do have a tough schedule [after the Red Sox leave], and on the other hand the Red Sox, once they finish up these three games in the Bronx -- which the Red Sox fervently hope will be the last three they ever play in that stadium -- Boston finishes up with 20 of its last 29 [games] at home, which is a terrific break for them in September. For all their inconsistencies this year, they have been a remarkable club at Fenway, playing well over .600, close to .700 baseball. So it is really last call for the Yankees here ... anything short of two out of three, which would allow them to pick up a game on the Red Sox and be within four of them, regardless of what happens with the White Sox and Twins in the wild-card race -- you know, four games with just over four weeks to go would seem doable. If on the other hand they drop a game, and the Red Sox take two out of three, leaving the Yankees six back with only three left head to head with the Red Sox, that is a decidedly uphill battle for the Yankees."
And on the difference between the clubs:
"The Red Sox certainly have had their share of injuries [like the Yankees], but their young players have been far more productive, when you look at guys like Lester and Lowrie and Ellsbury. For the Yankees, guys like Cabrera, Cano, Hughes and Kennedy have either been injured or disappointing."
