Red Sox, Yankees both interested in Kenny Rogers?

rogers0826.jpgThe Detroit Free Press reports today that the disappointing Tigers have placed left-hander Kenny Rogers on waivers, and that the team is hoping to move Rogers before Sunday, the deadline for teams to set their postseason rosters. Buster Olney of ESPN just asserted that the Yankees and the Red Sox are the only two teams with a serious interest in adding Rogers.

"The Gambler," who turns 44 years old in November, has been getting killed since the All-Star break, allowing opponents to hit .312 against him. For the season, Rogers is 9-11 with a 5.09 ERA in 27 starts.

If the Yankees and the Red Sox are in fact both interested in Rogers, Boston would seem to be unlikely to get him, since the Yankees, with an inferior record at this point, would get the chance to claim Rogers off waivers and work out a trade before the Sox ever get involved.
