BOSTON _ The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations was well represented this afternoon at Fenway Park.
Each of the six New England states is given its own day here and today is Rhode Island Day.
Governor Donald Carcieri is on hand, along with Rhode Island native, and Red Sox senior advisor, Jeremy Kapstein. Kayla McCoombs, 14, of Coventry, threw out the ceremonial first pitch and Cranston native Patrick Davey sang the National Anthem. The Rhode Island State Police Honor Guard presented the colors. Newly crowned RI governor of Red Sox Nation Ted Schmidt, of Saunderstown, was introduced in the pregame ceremony.
Kelley Lennon, of Cumberland, sang God Bless America in the seventh inning.
"Rhode Islanders are big Red Sox fans," said Carcieri. "We are a big part of Red Sox Naiton. We may be small, but we are passionate about our sports. It's exciting. This is such a wonderful tradition."
