Red Sox infielder Alex Cora left Thursday's game with a right-hip contusion after he was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning.

As a result, Gil Velazquez, who was recalled from Pawtucket earlier in the day, served as a pinch-runner and stayed in the game at shortstop in his major-league debut.
