| Pesky flattered; Sox excited to break tradition of retiring numbers »
By Joe McDonald BOSTON _ Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew was able to take batting practice on the field this afternoon. Drew, who has been bothered by a herniated disk for over a month, showed no ill effects and was hitting the ball with authority. The left-handed hitter was turning on the ball and driving it to right field. After hitting with the first group, he shagged balls in the outfield. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said prior to BP that today was the most "encouraging day in awhile" for Drew. |
