The Boston Red Sox have defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0, today to clinch a tie for the American League wild card playoff spot. The Red Sox need just one more win or a loss by the Yankees (who host Baltimore tonight) to clinch their fifth playoff spot in six years. They remain in contention for the American League East title, just a game and a half behind first-place Tampa Bay, which lost to Minnesota today.
