RAYS STREAK COMES TO AN END
Tampa Bay suffered their first defeat of the season when establishing a lead of five or more runs. They are now 38-1 in such games this year.
NINE STRAIGHT FOR AKINORI
AKINORI IWAMURA went 1-for-3 in tonight's game, and he has now reached base safely in
each of the Rays' nine postseason games, hitting in each of them except for Game Four of the ALCS.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
EVAN LONGORIA and B.J. UPTON have combined to hit 12 home runs this postseason,
extending their record of the most home runs by a pair of teammates under the age of 25...The previous high was six, set by the Mets' DARRYL STRAWBERRY and LENNY DYKSTRA in 1986 According to SABR, the 12 combined home runs is tied for second-most all-time among teammates in the postseason.
UP, UP AND AWAY
In five ALCS games, B.J. UPTON is hiting .400 (8-for-20) with three home runs and 10 RBI. B.J. became the seventh player in LCS history to have at least 10 RBI in a series...Of the previous six, five of them accomplished the feat in seven games...DON BAYLOR had 10 RBI in five games for the California Angles in 1982. Upton has now hit safely in eight consecutive postseason games since going 0-for-6 in Game One of the Division Series, and is 13-for-33 (.394) with six home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored since Game One of the ALDS.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
The Rays have stolen 13 bases in 14 attempts during this postseason, including six swipes in six attempts in the ALCS...The 13 stolen bases is tied for eighth-most in the postseason among American League teams...The Cleveland Indians hold the record with 18 swipes in 1995...In addition, Tampa Bay's stolen base percentage of 92.9 is tied for second-best in A.L. history...Anaheim also had 92.9% in 2002 (13-for-14), while Toronto was a perfect 11-for-11 in 1989.
