BY JOE McDONALD ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- After his gutsy starting pitching performance in Game Six of the ALCS here Saturday night, Josh Beckett sat in the visitor's clubhouse like a zombie. The right-hander was on the couch, watching TV with an almost lifeless stare. He was obviously completely drained. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Sunday afternoon that he hadn't talked with Beckett yet to see how he was feeling. Beckett worked five innings and allowed only two runs on four hits and was removed after 78 pitches. "I thought it was enough," the manager said. "It wasn't a vintage, 'Give me the ball and let me take it to the finish line.' It was more, 'I'll give you everything I have.' He found a way to get us to a certain point. You always try to win, but it was a point where I thought he did his job, so we went to the bullpen." |
