| ALCS Game Six pregame notes: Who's the real big-game pitcher? »
BY JOE McDONALD ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- It seems like forever ago, but Red Sox manager Terry Francona spoke Saturday afternoon about seeing former player Trot Nixon prior to Game Four of the American League Championship Series at Fenway Park. Nixon was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Francona was in his office when there was a knock on the backdoor and when he opened it, it was the Dirt Dog. Nixon was a key member of the Sox' championship team in 2004 and Francona said it was great to see him. "I spent about 20 minutes with him, which was really fun," said the manager. Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling tossed out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Game Five at Fenway Park. The veteran right-hander has been out all season after undergoing shoulder surgery. |
