BOSTON -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona has decided to start Alex Cora at shortstop instead of rookie Jed Lowrie in Game Three.
Francona explained the veteran Cora is better against power right-handed pitchers, such as the Rays' Matt Garza. Both Cora and Lowrie are 0-for-3 lifetime against Garza.
Lowrie will start again in Game Four on Tuesday.
"Sometimes you have different ways of being a good team," said Francona. "Sometimes you throw out the same nine, and sometimes you don't."
Lowrie is 4-for-17 with two RBI in his first postseason. Francona admitted Lowrie is handling himself just fine and that there's no need to give him a break.
"We're just trying to do what is best for the ballclub," Francona said. "We just want to put the best team out there we can."
