BOSTON -- The Red Sox conducted an offday workout at Fenway Park Wednesday afternoon, but by the turnout one would never had thought it was optional.

Boston trails the Rays 3-1 in the American League Championship Series with Game Five set for Thursday night at Fenway. The majority of the Red Sox players participated in a round of BP Wednesday afternoon, including those who have been struggling offensively.

Ortiz is batting .071 in this series with no homers and no RBI. He was asked if his ailing wrist has been a factor, but he didn't want to discuss it.

"I'm OK. Next question," he said.

Ortiz missed a total of 45 games in May and June with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist.

Jacoby Ellsbury is 0-for-14 in this series and he was here taking batting practice, too.

The Red Sox have been in this situation twice before. Facing elimination is nothing new for them. Ortiz said he doesn't believe there's much difference between 2004 when the Sox were down 0-3 to the Yankees or in 2007 when they trailed the Indians 3-1. Boston only has to do one thing.

"Win. It's that simple. Win," Ortiz said. "We need to win Thursday and keep it going. We've been here before and I have two (World Series) rings hanging in my house."
