Just about everyone knew that something wasn't right with Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett as he struggled through the American League playoffs, posting two poor starts and one grueling five-inning performance in Game 6 of the ALCS. Now, speaking to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, Beckett says that if he had to pitch in the World Series, "it would have been done through chemistry" -- meaning a cortisone shot, because of the pain from his oblique injury. Beckett told Bradford that even with the help of pain-killing medication, he had a hard time putting on his shirt after Game 6. "The one thing I know," Beckett said, "is if I could have gotten the last three innings of that game I can get through anything." |
