Terry Francona just announced in a live news conference that Daisuke Matsuzaka will start Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Friday night in St. Petersburg, followed by Josh Beckett in Game 2, Jon Lester in Game 3 and Tim Wakefield in Game 4. The team reserves the right to change their plans as the series goes on, Francona says. Francona said that he would probably have his ALCS roster released before the team works out tomorrow at Tropicana Field. In response to a question, he said he considered starting Paul Byrd in Game 4 instead of Tim Wakefield, but indicated that Byrd was probably a better option to bring out of the bullpen than the knuckleballing Wakefield.
