ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Rays' fans aren't used to winning and are still learning on the job how to cheer for their team.
Before the game, there is an annoucement on the giant message board in right field concerning the proper times and uses of cow bells. Fans can shake the bells when there are two strikes on a Red Sox' batter, to celebrate a Rays' hit or run or even when a favorite player is introduced to hit.
In between innings, a master of ceremonies standing near the Rays' dugout urges the crowd to 'Stand up and make some noise!'
The Rays also employ female cheerleaders. They stand a few rows off the field and get up in between pitches to urge the fans to make even more noise.
