Click the play button below to hear Joe McDonald's comments, recorded this morning. The topics: Matt Garza's big-time effort in Game 7, Joe Maddon's decision to go with David Price to get the most important outs of Tampa Bay's season, why the Red Sox should be proud, challenges in the offseason (including a possible long-term deal for Dustin Pedroia), and Joe's World Series pick.

Here are some of Joe's comments about the 2008 Sox:

"When Theo Epstein came to the clubhouse last night [after the game] ... he mentioned that, if you had asked him honestly back in May and June if the team was going to be playing in Game 7 of the ALCS, he said that, sure he was hoping it would be, but with all the injuries -- and the Manny stuff in the clubhouse -- they faced a lot of adversity this year. Sure, every team does throughout the course of a season, but the Red Sox had injuries to key players, heading into the postseason especially, and for them to force a Game 7 the way they did and get that close to a chance to repeat as World Series champions is really a testament to what these players did this year, and Theo wanted to make sure that he made that known, not only to the players in the clubhouse, but also the fans."

And Joe's call for the Series:
"I have to say the Rays. ... My original prediction was whoever won the American League was going to win the World Series, and certainly the Rays with the season that they've had and the postseason they've had, they really have momentum. The Phillies have been off for a few days now, and the Rays are coming off an emotional victory against the Red Sox. So I have to go with the Rhode Islanders [Baldelli and Wheeler] and the Rays. Actually, they'll be three Rhode Islanders in the World Series -- we can't forget Phillies first-base coach Davey Lopes. So Rhode Island is well-represented in the World Series."

Blaming injuries? Are you kidding me? Seriously... what a cop out.

How many Sox fans would put up with a Yankee fan whining injuries? It happens to every team, every season. What about the Rays?

The Sox got beat by a better team. Get over it.

Sure blame the injuries. Or maybe the Red Sox loss on Sunday night was really the fault of Manny Ramirez like everything else that went wrong for this team was supposed to be his fault. Give me a break. We sure could have used Manny's bat last night in St. Pete.

I agree with Theo: This team deserves a lot of credit for getting into the playoffs, then making it to the ALCS, and then force game seven. They struggled all year long for various reasons, and I'm proud of what they accomplished. If they can go so far on the rough road they traveled this year, then they should go much farther when they smooth things out next year.
