The Red Sox now have a six-game playoff road winning streak dating back to Game Five of the 2007 ALCS, the longest such streak in franchise history. The Sox also won Games Five, Six and Seven of the 1903 World Series in Pittsburgh and Games One and Four of the 1912 World Series in New York (against the Giants).

The Red Sox are 16-12 record in the first games of postseason series. They're now 4-5 in ALCS openers, winning in 1975 against the A's, 2003 against the Yankees, 2007 against the Indians and last night, but losing to the Angels in 1986, the A's in 1988 and '90 and the Yankees in 1999 and 2004.

The Red Sox have a 2.17 team ERA in their last 12 playoff games. They are 11-1 over that span.

Jason Varitek has now started 53 postseason games, third-highest total for a catcher behind Jorge Posada (88) and Yogi Berra (61). His 57 total games as a catcher are fourth-most behind Posada (95), Berra (63) and Javy Lopez (60).
