BY KEVIN McNAMARA BOSTON -- For years the Tampa Bay Rays couldn't find fans in the Tampa-St. Pete area if they tried. Now they can't keep them away. With their team one win away from the World Series, the Rays are flying high and fans are willing to sit anywhere in order to watch them play. If the Red Sox force a Game Six this weekend, the Rays will peel away giant tarps that have blocked off upper-level seats for years. The move will open up over 5,000 seats and increase capacity at Tropicana Field to nearly 40,000. "We want as many people as possible to be able to enjoy this,'' team president Matt Silverman told the Tampa Tribune. "Some are obstructed view, some don't have seat backs and they're pretty high up. But you're in the ballpark.'' The Rays will sell the new area if there is a Game Six or for the first time in Game One of the World Series next week. |
