Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon announced this morning on ESPN's "First Take" program that he has decided to shake up his starting rotation and give Scott Kazmir the ball in Game 5 at Fenway Park. James Shields, Tampa Bay's Game 1 starter and staff ace, was scheduled to get the start, but he has now been pushed back to Game 6 (if necessary). Kazmir, who was knocked around by the Red Sox in Game 2, will face Daisuke Matsuzaka tomorrow night. The move carries some risks for a Tampa Bay team that has been dead at the plate the last two games. If Kazmir once again struggles (he was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in four regular season starts against the Sox before surrendering five runs in four and a third innings in Game 2), it could give the Red Sox some needed momentum. We'll see. |
