Rocco Baldelli was expected to start Game One of the World Series for the Rays tonight against left-hander Cole Hamels, but he is not in the lineup. Ben Zobrist will be Tampa Bay's right fielder tonight. While broadcast media analysts are speculating that Baldelli's illness is the reason for the switch, neither Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times nor Marc Lancaster of the Tampa Tribune mention that in their respective blogs. Topkin quotes Joe Maddon as saying DH Willy Aybar and Zobrist "[match] up well against" Hamels and that "[this] is our best guess based on what we're observing." Maddon also said Baldelli will start Game Two tomorrow against Brett Myers, even though Myers is right-handed. CommentsLeave a comment |

very strange decision, but i trust Maddon. I'm sure McCarver will enlighten us.
