News spread quickly late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning that Rocco Baldelli was "misdiagnosed," but he just clarified the report. He said his medical condition has been "updated," not rediagnosed, and he is encouraged.
Baldelli's condition is less severe than originally believed and now will be treatable.
"I was not misdiagnosed," he just told the Journal. "It was the best diagnosis at the time. Now we have a more clear diagnosis and it's a lot better for my health and my baseball career."
Last spring, the 27-year-old Rhode Island native was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disorder that threatened his baseball career. He made a dramatic comeback and helped the Tampa Bay Rays reach the World Series.
The free-agent outfielder has been talking with numerous teams and educating GMs about his health condition, which will improve now that his doctors at the Cleveland Clinic have more of an understanding of the issue.
Baldelli called the health update "great news" and that he has modified his daily supplements. He said he's very optimistic about his health and playing career moving forward.
Bring him to Boston as a 4th outfielder! Best of luck Rocco
