By Joe McDonald It appeared the Red Sox were extremely close to signing free-agent Mark Teixeira last Thursday night. Red Sox owner John Henry and general manager Theo Epstein were in Texas meeting with Teixeira and his agent Scott Boras. But in the early hours of Friday morning the Red Sox pulled out of talks with Teixeira. "We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him," Henry responded in an email to the Journal. "After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor." Teixeira has been in discussions with other teams, including the Yankees, Nationals, Orioles and Angels. Henry has said he's not about to give any player the type of contract Teixeira and Boras are seeking in the range of 8-10 years. Teixeira wants a deal done by Christmas and it is still likely that he could sign with Boston. CommentsLeave a comment |

This is the Sox telling Boras that their offer is the last. This, I believe is due to Boras saying he has other offers and John Henry doesn't want to play games with Boras, who doesn't have, I believe another offer. Good for the Sox.These agents, especially Boras rips teams off...ala Manny. Poor Scott Boras wasn't going to gain a dime if the Sox picked up there option for Manny for $20 Million a year. So he has Manny do a flop, and get the Sox to trade him to the Dodgers.Just a guess, watch Mr. Boras say the other team doesn't want Mark..

Sorry Scottie!
No dice for the bank robbery you were planning. You got greedy and now Mark can go home or go to the Nationals (chortle!) Sure, he can go to the Yankees, BUT you have to kick-statr their interest now that you have kicked the Sox to the curb with your over-the-top demands! See ya!
