After an offseason of inaction as they waited for Mark Teixeira to decide where he wanted to play, the Red Sox are now in the process of building their team.
The Boston Globe reported last night that, in addition to bringing Brad Penny aboard on a one-year deal, the Sox are about to sign bring back catcher Josh Bard on a one-year contract.
Bard was Tim Wakefield's personal catcher for the first month of the 2006 season. The Sox, who had picked up Bard as part of the Coco Crisp trade with Cleveland in the 2005-06 offseason, traded him to San Diego in May 2006 after he committed eight passed balls in four Wakefield starts. Bard played most of the last three years with the Padres, but the team did not tender him a contract after last season.
