| Sabathia's playoff history -- It's not pretty »
The New York Post is reporting this morning that CC Sabathia, the most sought-after pitcher in this offseason's free-agent market, has agreed to sign with the Yankees on the largest contract ever given to a major-league pitcher, six years at a total value of at least $140 million. Sabathia, who had shown some reluctance to pitch on the East Coast, put aside his reservations after three straight days of face-to-face meetings with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, including one yesterday in which Cashman flew to Sabathia's home in San Francisco. The Post report indicates that there are still some hurdles to finalizing the deal, including the stipulation that Sabathia pass a physical. The 28-year-old Sabathia won the American League Cy Young Award with the Cleveland Indians in 2007, and he led the Milwaukee Brewers on a playoff run last year after a midseason trade from Cleveland. |
