Curt Schilling posted a blog entry on WEEI.com last night reacting to the New York Yankees' signing of Mark Teixeira. To sum up: Schilling gives the Red Sox credit for not offering Teixeira more than they felt was appropriate; he predicts that the offseason maneuvering in the A.L. East is not over; and he doesn't hold this big-money deal against the Yankees. Based on home ballpark dimensions, Schilling theorizes that Teixeira will be more productive with the Yankees than he would have been with the Red Sox. He writes that adding Teixeira makes New York tougher, while the Red Sox will be just fine, thank you, with Kevin Youkilis and a healthy Mike Lowell at the corner infield positions. And here's an excerpt from Schilling's comments regarding the Yankees: I think the Steinbrenners, coming off a miserable last season in Yankee Stadium, are dead set on opening the new stadium with a World Series and they don't care how much it costs. Good for them. You can bitch all you want about the Yankees and greed but they spend money in a sincere effort to win it all, every year. What fan wouldn't want their teams to do that. |
