LAS VEGAS -- Late Tuesday night Yankees GM Brian Cashman left here and traveled to California to sit down face-to-face with free-agent pitcher CC Sabathia in an attempt to sign the left-hander.
On Wednesday morning it was reported New York offered Sabathia a seven-year deal $160 million. Put it this way: Cashman wouldn't have left here to meet with the pitcher, and his wife, if the Yankees weren't serious about getting the deal done.
The Yankees made it an offseason priority to sign Sabathia and they weren't going to get beat on it. The Red Sox and Brewers were also involved in talks, but it was the Yankees who went the extra mile.
It's likely he'll officially accept the deal today.
