SAN DIEGO (AP) - Winning the AL MVP Award was one thing. Being on the cover of the video game MLB 09 The Show is a whole new experience for Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia donned a skintight, high-tech suit dotted with dozens of sensors to have his motions recorded during a session Wednesday at Sony Computer Entertainment America's San Diego Motion Capture Studio. The sensors were placed on all of his flex points so dozens of cameras, shooting at 120 frames per second, could correctly capture his motions. "It's been fun so far," said Pedroia, who later changed into his gray road Red Sox uniform. "I've never seen anything like that. It was pretty cool to put that suit on and kind of move around. I was watching that board back there and everything I do going to the plate, it was like identical. It was kind of weird. So it's been fun." The game will be released this spring for PlayStation3, PlayStation2 and PlayStation Portable. Pedroia joins teammate David Ortiz as earning cover status. "It's definitely an honor for me to be on there," Pedroia said. "There's been some unbelievable players who have been on the cover of this game." A small player with a meaty swing, Pedroia became the first AL second baseman to win the MVP award since Nellie Fox in 1959. He also won the Gold Glove and the Silver Slugger. Pedroia was the 2007 AL Rookie of the Year and capped off that season with a World Series ring. |
