Dustin Pedroia, during an interview today on ESPN's "First Take," joked about the painful end to his high-school football career at Woodland High School near Sacramento, Calif. The reigning American League MVP says he was a "135-pound" quarterback and free safety, until he ran an option play and "Lance Briggs broke my leg in half." Briggs, now a Chicago Bears linebacker listed at 6-1, 240 pounds, went to Elk Grove High School, also near Sacramento. Pedroia spoke highly of the competition this coming season in the American League East, but said that if the Red Sox stay healthy this year, they can win it. He also said that while he is really a 49ers fan, the Arizona native will be rooting for the Cardinals in the Super Bowl. |
