(Boston Red Sox press release)

The Boston Red Sox today announced a series of personnel moves in the organization's Baseball Operations and Scouting departments.

The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein.

Tom Tippett has been hired as Director, Baseball Information Services. Tippett began consulting with the Red Sox Baseball Operations department in 2003 and has since assisted in a variety of technology and baseball research projects. He was the Founder and President of Diamond Mind, Inc. and developed its baseball simulation software.

In addition, the club announced the hiring of Dean Decillis and Steve Peck as Professional Scouts. Decillis joins the Red Sox organization with more than 13 years of scouting experience, including most recently serving as Southeast Regional Crosschecker for the San Francisco Giants from 2005-08. He also has scouting experience with the Baltimore Orioles and the Philadelphia Phillies. Decillis spent 8 years as an infielder in the Detroit Tigers farm system from 1987-1995.

Peck joins the Red Sox organization after 13 years as a member of the Seattle Mariners coaching and scouting staff, including serving as an Advance Scout for the past five seasons. He worked with the Mariners as a minor league pitching coach (1996-2001) and as an Amateur Scout (2002-03) before being appointed an Advance Scout in 2004. From 1995-96 he was the pitching coach at Mesa Community College in Arizona. In 1988, Peck began a 7-year minor league career as a righthanded pitcher in the Oakland Athletics, California Angels and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.

In the amateur scouting department, the Red Sox hired Tim Hyers as the club's Area Scout for Georgia. Hyers begins his scouting career after playing parts of four seasons in the major leagues with the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, and Florida Marlins. As a hitting coach in the Tigers minor league system in 2002, he helped guide Single-A West Michigan to the best regular season record in the Midwest League. More recently, Tim operated and managed sports training facilities in Atlanta.

The Red Sox have also hired Fernando Tamayo as Assistant, International Scouting. Tamayo, a former catcher on Boston College's baseball team and a graduate of The University of Michigan Law School, originally joined the Red Sox Baseball Operations department in March 2008 as an intern based in Fort Myers, FL.
