Red Sox manager Terry Francona just boarded a plane to North Carolina to visit his daughters, but said he's a happy man now that he knows his team's captain, catcher Jason Varitek, will be back in 2009.
Way to go Scott Boris, you effectively got our client to work for two years what he would have easily made in one by accepting arbitration.
Unfortunately for Tek he listened. Tek we love ya, but your agent filled your head with pipe dreams. Great defense and in game acumen aren't what brings people to the ballpark. It's hits and homers.

Great news that Tek is back in the fold. This time of baseball used to be so much fun and excitement, but now it seems like the big dog gets it and everyone else can just lump it. I can remember hearing the story that Ted W. walked into Mr. Yawkey's office and saying that he didn't think he deserved the contract that he had signed for because he didn't have the numbers to justify it the year before(305 BA, 22 HR, and only 95 RBI ) or something like that. Don't know if this is true, but it sure would be great if someone had the ..... to do it now. Free agency is only good for the agents because in the long run the people who have to pay are the Fans. No wonder this name comes from the word fanatic!

It's going to be a sad season, watching the once great Captain of the Red Sox suffer the inevitable demise... hopefully he has enough good sense not to exercise his $3Million option next year and exits with a semblance of grace.

How many rallies will he kill in 2009?
