The Red Sox today avoided what was expected to be an arbitration battle with Jonathan Papelbon when they reached agreement with the star closer on a one-year contract. SI.com is reporting the deal is worth $6.25 million. That would be a record for a reliever in his first year of arbitration eligibility. They also signed left-handed reliever Javier Lopez to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration with him as well. |
