FORT MYERS, Fla. _ When the World Baseball Classic begins in a few weeks, the Red Sox will lose Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz and Daisuke Matsuzaka. All will play for their respective countries.
There's a slim possibility the club could be missing a catcher, too.
George Kottaras has been asked by Team Canada to play, but the Sox catching prospect doesn't think that would be in his best interest.
"I would like to represent Canada," he said. "But this is a big camp for me."
Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona met with Kottaras Saturday morning and explained as much to the young catcher. He's leaning toward staying.
