FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona just had his daily session with the media and reported that pitcher Miguel Gonzalez felt some discomfort in his elbow prior to his scheduled throwing session Saturday.

Francona didn't think it was anything to worry about, but decided it was best for the right-hander not to throw his side session for precautionary reasons.

A Rule V draftee from the Angels, Gonzalez, 25, missed all of the 2008 season with a knee injury. Boston had three scouts look at him this winter, and all of them were impressed.

Gonzalez was set to be examined by the medical staff Saturday and will be re-evaluated on Sunday.
