FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona released his starting rotation for the upcoming exhibition games.

The Grapefruit League begins on Wednesday night when the Sox face the crosstown rivals Twins at 7:05. Tim Wakefield will get the nod against Minnesota. Earlier in the day the Sox will play their annual exhibition game against Boston College. The Eagles will face Josh Beckett at 1:05.

Jon Lester will start against the Pirates at Thursday (1:05) and Michael Bowden will start at Tampa on Friday (1:05). Red Sox pitching prospect Kris Johnson will start against Northeastern University at 1:05 on Saturday and Clay Buchholz will work the nightcap against Cincinnati.

Newly acquired Red Sox pitcher Brad Penny, who dealt with shoulder problems in 2008 for the Dodgers, is slated to start his first spring-training game versus Puerto Rico on March 5. Francona said that is a tentative date for right-hander to make his first appearance for Boston.

In other news, closer Jonathan Papelbon tossed a 50-pitch side session Saturday morning and said it went well.
