J.D. Drew was hit in the right hand this afternoon by a pitch from Pittsburgh hurler Donnie Veal, and the fragile right fielder was immediately removed from the game and sent to have x-rays.
But team staff just announced that x-rays were negative, and Drew only has a contusion on the meaty part of his right hand, near where the bottom of the hand meets the wrist.
Drew is day-to-day.
When he came out of the game, all observers could tell was that Drew was in pain, bench coach Brad Mills said.
Drew's replacement, Bubba Bell, was also hit by a pitch this afternoon, this time in the foot. He was seen walking around the clubhouse on crutches, but reportedly the injury is not serious.
