Updating the Red Sox injury report, Julio Lugo will start his hitting today, Mark Kotsay hit 20 balls off a tee, and Jason Bay is fine after leaving yesterday's game with dehydration. Mark Kotsay is eight weeks removed from back surgery, but manager Terry Francona said his recovery is right on schedule. "He's right on date. Today might be the eight week mark. He's really stayed on schedule. He was excited, as he should be. He feels good. Kotsay could break camp with the team and do his rehabilitation work in Boston. "Most likely. As long as he can do his stuff with us, we'd like him to be with us, as a good influence," Francona said. Lugo hit off the tee today, the start of a progression that should get him back on the field in three weeks to a month. Jason Bay is back in the lineup after being pulled from yesterday's game due to dehydration. Bay said he had been feeling ill, plagued with a stomach malady, and didn't eat or drink much before the game. When he got onto the field, in the heat and humidity, he felt weak. "With the heat yesterday, I just wasn't feeling right," Bay said. He got fluids and ate after coming out of the game, and felt significantly better. "By the time I left the park yesterday I felt almost 100 percent," he said. |
