At first, Puerto Rico nibbled away at U.S. starter Jake Peavy. Then they decided to go for the kill.

Puerto Rico scored two runs on three singles in the first inning, and then widened the lead in the second on a two-run home run by Felipe Lopez. They followed it up with more smallball, and Puerto Rico finished the second inning up 6-0.

Peavy is likely out of the game after those two rough innings, with Joel Hanrahan warming in the bullpen and ready to come on.
