The Red Sox have reassigned pitcher Adam Mills from the major league camp, sending the pitcher -- who gave up two runs in three innings against Baltimore yesterday -- down to minor league camp.

Mills, a command pitcher who split last season between Single-A and Double-A, wasn't originally invited to major league camp. He got a chance with other players out, and impressed Francona with the way he pounds the strike zone.

"He never beats himself. He keeps it down in the zone, he throws strikes, he's really fun to watch pitch. He's a kid who wasn't even in our camp, but because of guys leaving, he's really made the most of his opportunity, and he's done a good job," Francona said.

Mills allowed four runs in nine innings this spring, striking out five. He pitched in five games, starting one. He was happy with the spring he had.

"Usually coming into a spring, it takes me a little while until I feel confident. And this spring's been kind of a unique spring in the way of how I've felt. I've felt strong... and things are going in the right direction for me," Mills said after his start yesterday. "We'll see what happens in the future."
