The Red Sox announced Wednesday night that they have signed free agent right-handed pitcher Rocky Cherry to a minor-league contract. He went 0-3 with one save and a 6.35 ERA in 18 relief appearances for Baltimore in 2008, but spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Norfolk. He went 0-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 28 games out of the bullpen with the Tides. Cherry has pitched at the major league level in each of the last two seasons and owns a 1-4 record with one save and 5.77 ERA in 40 career appearances for the Cubs (2007) and Orioles (2007-08). |
